Activewear made from plastic bottles

The effects of plastic on the environment is detrimental. There’s over 12m tonnes of plastic that enters the marine environment every year. These brands are impacting the environment for a sustainable future with Activewear made from plastic bottles.

They turn plastic into the most beautiful activewear pieces. So why not wear great looking pieces that will make you feel powerful knowing the impact that one piece has.

We’ve researched some incredible activewear brands that you will not want to miss out on, most are activewear made from plastic bottles, while others use recycled materials.

Nube

‘Made for people on this planet’

They use only recycled materials to make their items that would otherwise be thrown away. They are also trying to source all of their materials locally in East LA.

One thing that we don’t always think about is the fabric waste, those little off cut pieces. Nube thought of that too, and sell these off cut pieces to companies who buy scraps to make mops. Or even working with artists and fashion students who can use these scraps to make something incredible.

The dyes and finishes are non toxic, low impact and lead free. Which could otherwise have a massive impact on the water waste and earth. And last but not least, their packaging and shipping materials are plastic free, and completely recycled and recyclable. The kraft mailers, order confirmation paper, postcards, and hang tags can be tossed in with your paper recycling and are all naturally biodegradable. No detail is too small- their office paper is made using wind power through credit purchasing!

There’s so much to love about this company!

Girlfriend Collective

Another transparent company, which is so refreshing! Did you know that almost all synthetic activewear is made from plastic? They just make theirs with materials that would otherwise clog landfills and pollute the earth. It all starts with 100% post-consumer water bottles that have their labels removed, are crushed into billions of miniscule chips, and then washed until they’re sparkling clean.

After a bunch of science stuff with names like “polymerization,” you get a soft, recycled yarn that eliminates the need for petroleum and diverts water bottles from landfills at the same time.

Here’s a breakdown of each of their products and how it stacks up:

They make use of 100% recycled and recyclable packaging. Their compressive leggings and bras collection is made from recycled polyester and spandex. While their leggings are made from 25 recycled post-consumer bottles, and the bras are made from 11 bottles! How incredible is that!

Our tees and tanks are 100% cupro, a delicate fiber made from waste the cotton industry leaves behind.

So not only is their range reusable and adorable, it’s just as good for the earth as the rest of their line.

They have an entire page set out to explain exactly where each part of the process is helping the earth, read through it here.
