Free Bookamat App

Bookamat Mobile App

We often get asked if Bookamat has an app which clients can download. Our response is yes, we have a progressive web app (PWA) which clients can download to their phones home screen by visiting

The conversation can then turn to something along the lines of, but if it’s not on the app store, how can it be an app?

This confusion about what are PWA and what they make possible is what we hope to shed some light on, including the incredible benefits they offer without the need for native “vanity” apps.

When we built Bookamat in 2015 we made the decision that it would be a web based platform because the web could deliver all the functionality our clients needed.

In addition, building native apps for Android and iPhone would significantly increase our running costs and slow down our ability to deploy updates and new features.

So since our beginning Bookamat has been a fully responsive and mobile friendly web application. In 2019 we started offering Bookamat as a PWA which means Bookamat is even more “app-like” than ever before.

Some benefits of the Bookamat PWA include:

  • Near instantaneous loading (on the second visit)
  • Installed on the home screen as an app icon
  • A full-screen user experience
  • Offline access
  • Push notifications (coming soon)

Futhermore, as Google notes, PWAs are user experiences that have the reach of the web, and are:

  • Reliable – Load instantly and never show the downasaur, even in uncertain network conditions.
  • Fast – Respond quickly to user interactions with silky smooth animations and no janky scrolling.
  • Engaging – Feel like a natural app on the device, with an immersive user experience.

This new level of quality is what has allowed Progressive Web Apps to earn a place on our user’s home screen.

Another key benefit to PWA is its discoverability.  It exists on the web, just like any other website, and can be found via major search engines, social shares, and links from other websites.

The fact that it removes the barrier of having to go to one of the native app stores to find, authenticate and install the application prior to using it means it’s ultimately easier to integrate it as part of your content, paid and social strategies. That’s tangible value for any brand.
